Seminar "How Admission Decisions Are Made In Most Selective Colleges"
Parents, are you ready to help your child going through this ever increasing competitive college application process?
To help parents and students to have a better idea how to prepare to reach dream colleges, Zheda Alumni Network will invite Ms. Wanqiu Chen, a former Stanford Admission officer, to give us her insight about "How admission decisions are made in most selective colleges (透视美国名校录取学生內幕)":
- Why do colleges make decisions that are sometimes hard to understand?
- Is there a perfect way to evaluate students?
- Are there “hooks” that will get a student admitted to the first choice college?
- How do public and private colleges make decisions?
- What information do colleges want from the counselor and the school?
- Why do colleges with similar standards make different decisions?
- And much more!
Parents and students also get chances to ask questions and seek advice face-to-face.
As a parent of graduating high school student, I personally have listened to one of Ms. Chen's talks last August and was very impressed. It was very educational, which is the main drive I am organizing this event since I believe it could also be helpful to many alumni families. Based on what I learned from her last talk, parents and students starting from 8th grade are highly recommended to attend this seminar as an earlier planning would definitely help to eliminate many surprises that may hinder students' chances to their dream schools, actually more often, parents dream schools. Here is one of the examples, a "determined" parent asked how to prepare and plan his 5 year-old daughter to Stanford... ... just let the girl be herself for a while... :-).
Please sign up the event if you are coming to help us manage the room capacity. After signing up, you would receive confirmation and reminder emails. Please feel free to spread words out for this event as many alumni may not in our mailing list. You also can invite your non-alumni friends to attend the event.
Here are some highlights about Ms. Chen:
- Professional Certificate on College Admissions, Harvard Admissions Institute.
- Former Director for Administration at the Stanford GSB Ph.D. and M.A. programs. Primary responsibilities included admissions, recruiting, financial aid, and student services.
- Enjoy working with students and motivating them to become the best they can be.

There are about 250 people showed up in the seminar. There could be more people coming if it was not conflicted with SAT test date. Ms. Chen has given a very impressive talk that everyone walked away with smiles and being helped. The audience included Zheda alumni, alumni's friends and colleagues also with different ethics.
